Angel of Independence

Its official name is Monument to Independence. It is a starting point and a port of arrival. Those who step on it may not know it, but they are guarded by the remains of those who gave us a homeland. Before being the seat of important social gatherings, this monument is a mausoleum made up of a stepped plinth, a 35-meter-high quarry column and the statue of Winged Victory as the finishing touch —designed by the architect Antonio Rivas Mercado—.

Currently it is possible to visit the urns and the sculptures of the 14 national heroes who have their eternal home there: Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, Ignacio Allende, Juan Aldama, José Mariano Jiménez, José María Morelos y Pavón, Mariano Matamoros, Francisco Javier Mina, Guadalupe Victoria, Vicente Guerrero, Nicolás Bravo, Leona Vicario, Andrés Quintana Roo, Víctor Rosales and Pedro Romero.

The one also known as "El Ángel" has a small 360 viewpoint. To go up you must request a special permit at the Cuauhtémoc Delegation (Aldama s / n, corner Mina, Buenavista), in the Cultural Heritage area, from 10am to 2pm.

Only the person in charge of the group that will upload must appear and show their official identification (INE) in Cultural Heritage, so that a ballot with the day and time of your visit will be issued free of charge. This procedure is totally free.
